Cleaning of a parts surface is one of the most overlooked aspects during the finishing process despite being essential at every stage of the sanding process to ensure a clear, smooth finish. Dust, grit, and other airborne contaminants from prior sanding operations can become trapped in the finish, causing cloudiness.

Bristle type is dependent factors including particulate size and static sensitivity. Larger contaminants, like wood chips from the drilling and machining of parts are best removed with a stiffer brush, while finer saw dust is best removed with a softer brush. Static charge can ultimately clog the brush if not addressed.

Tampico Cleaning Brush

If static electricity is an issue in your cleaning environment, a natural fiber like Tampico has been the traditional fiber of choice. Being a natural fiber, Tampico is less prone to cause static but bristle diameter cannot be chosen and it fatigues faster than nylon causing the bristles to weaken over time and break off. As such, stiffness selection and brush life are limited.

Anti-Stat Cleaning Brush

Brushes with anti-static nylon prevent the generation of any additional static electricity similar to Tampico but offer greater applicational coverage and increased service life. This is because we can make brushes in a variety of filament sizes ranging from .010″ to .020″. Bristle diameter used is dependent on the size of particle needing to be moved.

Boar-Hair Cleaning Brush

If you have a situation where extremely fine sanding dust on your parts is an issue our line of Fineset boar’s hair natural fiber brushes is the best choice. After applying the bristle to the core, the brush is trimmed to size at operating speeds. Doing so creates split ends at the tips of the fiber. These split ends act like a feather duster, capturing even the finest chalky dust.
